New complements old in Prato - Italy

Last week I stumbled upon this stunning interior from an 18th century Italian palazzo in Prato (near Florence). It is called 'Casa Orlandi'. Deeply impressive! I've hardly ever seen modern design complementing old so beautifully. It feels like living in an enormous painting, don't you think? All the frescoes painted by Luigi Catani were restored and the Italian architect Sabrina Bignami did an magnificent job at preserving the original elements while playing with modern furniture. You can read more about it and about her on yatzer. What do you think about this mixture of modern and old?
(p.s. thank you all for the very kind comment's on my previous post
:) They made my day, even though I was really busy. It's great to read about your pleasure from flowers).

  3. Oh it's so different! Part of me loves it and part of me wants to go all old. It is very intriguing though :)

  4. The darker the photographs got, the more I focused on the NEW as opposed to the OLD. I actually had to go back up and see the images all over again. Then I noticed it more. The interior designers did a wonderful job-- Nothing takes away from the historical beauty and quiet majesty of each room.

  6. Loved all the photos with the exception of the dining table (not so sure how I feel about that one). These really spark the imagination though.

  7. The walls and ceilings look fantastic, so artful! And the purple bedroom is my favourite. I find interesting the combination of old and new in the first picture. Ada

  8. I particularly like the combination in the first few photos. The minimalist style sofas add a fresh quality and the colours are themselves refreshing.

  14. Thanks Kristel for your comment. I also think the style is more defined in my posts, sometimes we find much information and is hard to select.
I like these interiors and love also this kind of style: classical + new design. And the bath...oh, that bath is amazing! Thanks also for the link, I have taken a look and seen fantastic pics. It is a great inspiration. ;-) xxx

  15. I agree! What an extremely well done blend. I love the juxtaposition of trompe l'oeil with mid century modern, its like they drew design eras out of a hat, but pulled it off!

  18. I absolutely love mixing up old and new... not that my house looks anything like an Italian palazzo obviously.

The contrast of white modern design against all those layers of history just make these images so interesting. Love, love, love.
