Hillenius

Couture. The intensive labor hours, the perfect fitting, amazing details with lace, pearls, stones, sequins, buttons, ribbons, bows, the delicate fabrics, the finest materials and the characteristic of something being unique and personal. Who wouldn't like that for a wedding dress? Hillenius is one of the few couture ateliers in Holland left offering this kind of luxury to women searching for their perfect dress. These beautiful photographs of the atelier and some of the made pieces and their introduction video struck me with beauty. The thought of a personalised dress design passed my mind several times because I have a reasonably clear idea how I'd want it to look, although I have nothing against existing bridal labels and dresses. I lack seeing people close to me in personally designed dresses, so I have no clue if it would be worth the try. What if it doesn't turn out the way you imagined? Is it better to find an existing piece that turns out to be exactly what you were looking for?

By no means I'm trying to turn this into a wedding blog but I would love to use this couture inspired post to ask about your thoughts or advice...

  2. Beautiful work! I think there's nothing like the fit of a custom gown, but if you've found exactly what you want pre-made, and all you would need is minor alterations, then you are super lucky!

  6. Christel, first of all congratulations on your engagement! It is very exciting to look forward to the wedding...I was very lucky to have a custom gown by an Italian designer who was a family friend. The experience (and the dress) were wonderful. Having said that, when I started looking for a dress, I also visited several ateliers of bridal labels and they have amazing collections. Good luck with the search!

  7. It looks like a beautiful boutique! It would be wonderful to have a custom gown; my sister actually did this for her wedding and was very happy with the result. I think as long as you know what you want and go for regular fittings so you can check up on the progress (which you can then adjust if you are not completely happy) - it's perfectly ok. Do let us know what you decide! xx

  9. These look beautiful, Christel. I had my wedding dress custom made, I had a very clear image of what I would like it to look and I can say that I really contributed to the design myself. But the designer you work with has to be very flexible and open to suggestions. Because if you find a pre-made dress you love and feel that that's your dream dress, you should buy that one. xoxo

  10. A couture wedding gown would be lovely as you would have something that is truly yours esp. if you have something specific in mind. You should definitely look into it. I think that if you see the dress that's meant for you, you'll know as soon as you lay eyes on it. That's how it was for me anyway.
