Last week I stumbled upon this stunning interior from an 18th century Italian palazzo in Prato (near Florence). It is called 'Casa Orlandi'. Deeply impressive! I've hardly ever seen modern design complementing old so beautifully. It feels like living in an enormous painting, don't you think? All the frescoes painted by Luigi Catani were restored and the Italian architect Sabrina Bignami did an magnificent job at preserving the original elements while playing with modern furniture. You can read more about it and about her on yatzer. What do you think about this mixture of modern and old?
(p.s. thank you all for the very kind comment's on my previous post:) They made my day, even though I was really busy. It's great to read about your pleasure from flowers).

Oh, I love this! I wasn't sure about how I felt about it but the chairs look incredible in that living room! You always have the greatest finds. :)

Oh it's so different! Part of me loves it and part of me wants to go all old. It is very intriguing though :)
ReplyDeleteThe darker the photographs got, the more I focused on the NEW as opposed to the OLD. I actually had to go back up and see the images all over again. Then I noticed it more. The interior designers did a wonderful job-- Nothing takes away from the historical beauty and quiet majesty of each room.
ReplyDeleteWow I just love the look of the darker rooms! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLoved all the photos with the exception of the dining table (not so sure how I feel about that one). These really spark the imagination though.
ReplyDeleteThe walls and ceilings look fantastic, so artful! And the purple bedroom is my favourite. I find interesting the combination of old and new in the first picture. Ada
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the combination in the first few photos. The minimalist style sofas add a fresh quality and the colours are themselves refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the same as someone above that part of me loves it and part of me wants to go all old.
ReplyDeleteSTUNNING! I love the first chandelier... major swoon!! xo
ReplyDeleteYes! It really is a complimentary mix!
ReplyDeletei went through these - and umm there's NOT 1 thing i don't LOVE!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT!! I posted a picture of the dining area/chandelier a few days ago but have never seen the rest of the place- it's so stunning. That kind of mix is my absolute favourite- thanks so much for sharing this- so so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristel for your comment. I also think the style is more defined in my posts, sometimes we find much information and is hard to select.
ReplyDeleteI like these interiors and love also this kind of style: classical + new design. And the bath...oh, that bath is amazing! Thanks also for the link, I have taken a look and seen fantastic pics. It is a great inspiration. ;-) xxx
I agree! What an extremely well done blend. I love the juxtaposition of trompe l'oeil with mid century modern, its like they drew design eras out of a hat, but pulled it off!
ReplyDeleteThese is so beautiful! The first 2 photos are just really a happy place. I like mixing classic, modern and bright colors. I enjoy every visit here on your blog!
ReplyDeleteLove love the hidraulic floor,
ReplyDeleteYour blog inspire me, thanks

I absolutely love mixing up old and new... not that my house looks anything like an Italian palazzo obviously.
ReplyDeleteThe contrast of white modern design against all those layers of history just make these images so interesting. Love, love, love.
